WHY?

We're not really sure. Kirby Street is a strange and exotic place. For 4 years, the ritual of Kirby Derby has taken place. There has been laughter and tears, break-ups and make-ups...and lots of make up.

The story goes that one of the members of the Kirby-Bilyeu, in a move to try to get out of being the neighborhood president, insisted on having a parade. Much to the surprise of this neighbor, the neighborhood agreed enthusiastically. And thus, 5 years ago, a parade was born.

On this monumental anniversary of Kirby Derby Day, we are adding something new to the celebration...an actual DERBY. We hope you get into the spirit of Derby-ness by either joining the Derby or supporting it with appropriate headwear. A Derby Hat is a thing to behold. Although there are Derby Hat specialty shops, you can also wear a DIY Derby Hat. Simply purchase any hat with a nice large brim, like a straw beach hat for instance, and then go to Michaels and buy a lot of artificial flowers. Attach them to your hat in a creative way and, Voila!, you have a Derby Hat.
